It was a cloudy day in Geosenge Town. It was a little breezy too but the temperature was mild. Vye was outside the town with her Pokemon. Farr was relaxing in some shade while the others were playing some sort of game, chasing each other around.

Vye was leaned up against a tall rock, wondering what she should do next. Today was the day Lysandre was expecting to meet her there. She had always felt suspicious of Lysandre. And now Lukk was warning her about him too, despite having never met him.

Her problem wasn’t so much whether or not she could trust him. She was very certain she couldn’t. Her problem was what she should do about it. He had been able to keep track of her so far and his resources could help him do so again. She still had more than three months left in Kalos so she couldn’t leave yet. At least not if she wanted to take her new Pokemon with her. And then even if she left Kalos, it was hard to say how far he’d go to get her to do what he wanted. She was unsure of how strong his resolve to use her was or what lengths he’d go to. Should she try to confront him directly? Or was running really the best option?

Before she came up with her answer, she heard her holo caster ringing. She sighed, glancing down at it. She had put it on top of her back pack which was laying on the ground next to her. She assumed he would be calling and she was right.

Vye slowly bent down to pick it up. She held it in front of her and waited for him to just make it answer himself. After a few more rings, he did. The blue hologram of Lysandre appeared in front of her.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Brante,” he greeted.

            “Hm,” Vye grunted in response.

“I trust your journey has been going well,” he commented.

            “Yeah, guess so,” Vye answered.

“I have arrived in Geosenge Town as we discussed,” he told her. “Are you near the area?”

            “Maybe,” she replied.

The fact that he didn’t know the answer to the question meant he either kept his promise and turned off the tracking device in the holo caster, or he was just pretending he had. Either way, Lyandre was clearly annoyed he didn’t get a more straight forward answer from her.

“I will be here for a few days if you need more time,” Lysandre commented.

“No need to wait on me,” she told him.

“I have something for you,” he said. “I would like to give it to you in person.”

“Another way to keep track of me?” Vye asked him snidely.

He smiled briefly and shook his head. “No,” he said. “Just a gift to show my faith in you.”

Vye shifted her weight a little, looking away to show how uninterested she was.

“I’ll see if I can fit you into my schedule,” she said casually.

“Just tell me when and where we can meet,” he said. “I’m sure that would make it easier to sort this all out. We can meet under your terms.”

“My terms are that we don’t need to meet at all,” Vye muttered.

Lysandre sighed and put a hand to his forehead. “Yes, I’m sure that is what you’d prefer,” he complained. He lowered his hand again. “But this really is important.”

“Important how?” she asked. “And to whom?”

Lysandre glanced around for a moment as if looking around the area he was in. Then he gave Vye a hard look.

“To you,” he assured her. “You have just forgotten why.”

“Oh really,” Vye shrugged. “Then remind me.”

“I know about Mewtwo,” he said firmly. “How you have captured one.”

Vye went immediately pale. She felt her chest tighten in a panic and her eyes widened.

Vye unintentionally dropped the holo caster. She pressed up tightly against the rock behind her as it fell to the ground. Her Pokemon seemed to notice her reaction and stopped their game. They all watched her worriedly.

The hologram of Lysandre was still visible. Vye couldn’t be sure if she was still in his view, but the hologram looked up at her from below.

“You were practicing with it outside of Floarama Town in Sinnoh,” he explained. “I knew what Mewtwo was when I saw it, but did not expect it to be so calm and obedient. I approached you. It was clear the two of you were upset that I had seen you. I promised I would not tell anyone about Mewtwo. In exchanged, you promised me one favor. When I needed your services, I would be able to rely on you.”

Fear had taken hold of Vye and she found herself unable to say anything. She had long feared the day someone would discover Mewtwo. His kind had been declared illegal after an incident with one at a tournament in Kanto. Vye had been hiding him for years, knowing if he were ever discovered she’d be charged. She’d lose her license, her Pokemon, possibly her freedom. And worse, Mewtwo would be sent back to the labs that had created him. Even now he would still have nightmares of those days he spent there. She couldn’t send him back.

And Lysandre knew about Mewtwo? And he had since the time in Sinnoh? How could she have not known about this? According to his story, she should have known. If his story was true, how in the world had she forgotten?

And how could she get away from him if he had this to hold against her?

The hologram of Lysandre held up his hands.

“Please,” he said, “don’t worry. I’m still going to keep up my end of the deal.” Then he added lowly, “So long as you cooperate and keep yours.”

This did not ease Vye’s fears. Lysandre knew the position she was in. He could easily end the life Vye had built away. She knew it. He knew it. And he was going to use it.

Vye still couldn’t get any words out. Depp floated up to her. He cuddled up to her shoulder as if trying to draw her attention, but she was still just frozen in place.

Lysandre glanced around briefly, then looked up at her again.

“That rock behind you,” he noted, sounding annoyed, “you’re just outside of Geosenge, aren’t you?”

Vye lowered her gaze to look away from him and then nodded.

Lysandre sighed again. “There is a restaurant near the south western edge of the city,” he explained. “It’s next to Geosenge Hotel. Please meet me there in an hour.” He folded his arms firmly. “I must insist.”

            Vye winced. “F-fine,” she managed.

The call ended and the image of Lysandre disappeared. Vye stood there for a moment, but then she weakly slid down to the ground.

            “How…?” she uttered. “How? How?

Kidd walked up next to her, looking worried. She put a hand on Vye’s head.

            “Braixen,” she said sadly.

Vye closed her eyes tightly. “I don’t know what to do,” she struggled.

The Pokemon all looked at each other in concern. They weren’t sure what to do either.
